This collection represents the group in its various forms and configurations, with re-recorded versions of jembe music like Sorsonet and Komodenu (Kotedjuga) from our debut EP, Diaspora (2019), and new songs like Pioneers (A Tribute to Hartford) and Is It Hip Hop (Part 2). Pioneers features voice-over audio from part one of our docuseries, Diaspora Stories: Hartford, detailing the history of African drumming in Hartford. Is It Hip Hop (Part 2) features special guests Ghazi Omair (rhymes), Josh Bruneau (trumpet) and Yunie Mojica (alto sax). Fugitive Rhythm and Lamban were recorded live at our concert in Bushnell Park in June 2021.
Lastly, this album is dedicated to Karim Rome (1993-2023), who appears on 5 songs (all recorded and previously released before his passing). Proceeds from our first-day sales were donated to the scholarship fund started in his honor. #WeLoveYouKarim
